Autumn & Winter, Outfits, Style

Layers & Lace

I had a great outfit planned to feature this blouse; and then, on a walk with my dog in the park, I stumbled across this pretty little spot and felt inspired.  I’m pleasantly surprised with the images, considering how overcast it was; it’s been drizzling non-stop this week.  Not only that, but it’s been freezing—literally—at night, and I’m not a fan of the cold, or the ice that it brings with it.  Picturesque?  Yes.  Fun to try and navigate?  Not so much.  It also limits wardrobe choices; I miss my summer dresses.

While I’ve been layering up with warm coats and pretty scarves, I’ve also re-discovered my seasonal love affair with “invisible layering”.  While leggings are amazingly comfortable, they’re notoriously bad at trapping heat.  Someone, somewhere, in the distant past created something wonderful for those of us who don’t want to give up our leggings during the colder months:  wool leggings, a.k.a. long johns.  Thank you, whoever you were!

Between the long johns beneath my regular leggings, thick socks, warm coats, scarves, and hats, I think I may just survive this winter in one piece…if I can get enough pictures, quickly enough, without my coat on!  But I couldn’t really not show off this top, could I?

One of my biggest weaknesses is lace; I love how delicate and feminine it is.  Whenever I feel like I have nothing to wear, or feel “blah” about whatever outfit I put together, lace is the answer.  It’s an instant mood booster, especially when it’s in a whimsical, flowing top like this.  Beautiful!

Have a great weekend, everyone.
