Happy St. Patrick’s Day

In general, while I like looking at runway trends, they don’t completely dominate my wardrobe.  That being said, occasionally what’s trendy and my personal aesthetic tastes more or less match up.  The spring and summer collections for this year just happened to fall into that category, featuring lots of feminine, flowing pieces adorned with floral prints.  Now you’re speaking my sartorial language.

After recently binging a season of Project Runway—I know, so cliché for a style blogger to like a fashion show, but what can I say, it’s a lot of fun—I felt inspired to create something.  This fabric has been sitting in my sewing kit for ages and I just haven’t had any idea what to do with it…until now.

A strapless maxi dress is not only an easier cut to master, but also a very stylish silhouette.  I made the bodice snug, but allowed the skirt to flow naturally.  It’s got an effortless, breezy feel to it, and I like that.  It’s versatile enough to wear to a variety of occasions as well, assuming the seams hold up long-term.  Fingers crossed.

While the pattern itself is fairly colorful, there’s not much green to it.  Not only am I trying to avoid pinches today, but I also like the idea of pairing earthy tones with a floral pattern.  I used one of my St. Patrick’s Day styling tips and layered up with this utility jacket.  I took the earthy tones further, adding a dash of country, with a pair of fun cowboy boots—not something I wear often.

I softened the overall look with a loose fishtail braid, and a flower in my hair.  I like it—I’m celebrating St. Paddy’s and the impending arrival of spring, all in one stylish look.
