The Perfect Barbie Earrings

The Perfect Barbie Earrings

I got my first question this week. I wasn't even sure I had any readers at all, so it's nice to know you exist, even if there's only one of you. Thanks for reaching out; you've really made my day!

The question: "Where did (I) get the earrings in the ‘Little Black Dress’ post?”

With Barbie and other 1:6 scale dolls, finding earrings that aren't too big is genuinely tricky. Just about everything I own, even dainty pieces, looks massive on Eve. She's only 12" tall, so that's to be expected. Official Barbie jewelry tends to be cheap plastic and never looks as realistic as I'd like. There are quite a few shops on Etsy and eBay with playscale jewelry that looks promising, but I haven't ordered from any of them…yet.

The earrings in question (pictured above) were purchased at Glitter in a three-pack: faux diamond, pleated silver, and plain silver. I also picked up a pair of gold earrings from the same shop.

If you decide to try earrings like these, be aware that they can be extremely delicate. When I bent the earring backs into a slight curve (which helps them stay in place), I had to be very gentle to avoid snapping them.

The studs shown below are from a local piercing shop, bought for me because I have multiple piercings in each ear and hoops get hopelessly tangled in my hair. Tiny studs are easier to come by than hoops and other shapes, but as you can see, they tend to stick outward at an odd angle and don't look quite as realistic.

They worked out nicely enough, though, and I'm hopeful I'll find more that suit her. I've recently discovered that several shops sell dainty nose rings in smaller sizes with a curved back, and I suspect they might be exactly what I'm after. I haven't tested any yet, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

If you try them, let me know how it goes. And if you have any tips on finding shiny things for dolls, I'm all ears (pun very much intended).
