My Interview with Jacinda

My Interview with Jacinda

Jacinda Torres is an up-and-coming name in the fashion industry, but she’s hardly new to having a camera aimed her way. She’s posed for brands like Nyke, Goice & Dobana, and, more recently, “Ember” by Le Chal.

I got to sit down, virtually speaking, for a little video chat session earlier this week and pick her brain.

Eve: Let’s start with something easy: Is Jacinda Torres a stage name? Is that your natural hair color?

Jacinda: (Smiles) No, Jacinda Torres is my actual name. The idea of using a stage name never occurred to me.
By the by, what is it with you and redheads, Eve?  I’ve read several of your past interviews, and you’ve asked every single one of us gingers about our hair!  (laughs).

Eve:  Oh my, haha, do I?  It might be color envy.

Jacinda: Well, to answer your question, I'm a natural red, but I've been known to alter the shade on occasion.  Right now, I’m not sure if you can see it or not through this feed, but I’ve got blonde striped highlights.

Eve:  I’ve kept my hair past my shoulders most of my adult life, but I’ve never grown it to my waist.  Is it a pain to keep it de-tangled and looking fabulous?

Jacinda: You're sweet! I don't know about fabulous, but it does take a lot of work to maintain. I've had long hair my whole life so I'm used to it, but there have been few days where it was in serious jeopardy of being turned into a bob.

Eve: So, now for some tougher questions: How old are you, and where are you from?

Jacinda:  I'm 25... ish (smiles). My family is largely from Spain and I've spent many summers there, but mostly, I grew up in Seattle. It’s such a wonderful city. I love about the Pacific Northwest.

Eve:  Seattle huh?  Were you into the grunge movement?

Jacinda:  No (laughs), that was well before my time.

Eve:  Are you saying I’m old?!  Just kidding.  How did you start modelling?

Jacinda: I got into modelling by chance. My local studio was being interviewed for a segment in Namaste Today and I was asked to demonstrate a few poses with my instructor. I didn’t think anything of it at the time and was happy to help. A few weeks later I received a call from an agent asking if I'd be interested in doing more and here I am. It’s kinda crazy!

Eve: What’s your favorite part about your job?

Jacinda: Ooh, that's a tough one. I guess my favorite thing about modelling is how different it is. I never expected to be in this line of work, so I suppose it’s the exploration of something new? It’s also much more challenging than people think and I like a challenge.

Eve: What was your favorite photo shoot (or best photographer to work with)?

Jacinda: My favorite photo shoot was when I got to work with Logan Maitland. You know him, yes? He's just amazing and makes everything so much fun. He took that photo above in the blue. He’s very professional, very natural. The latest shoot was for a popular climbing gear company and I've no idea how to climb, but he made me look like a pro! If you’re reading this: thank you Logan! (laughs).

Eve:  Good thing you’re not afraid of heights!  I’ve seen the advanced photo; not allowed to post it yet, the campaign hasn’t gone live, but she does, in fact, look like a pro. Any chance we can get a tiny taste of upcoming jobs?

Jacinda:  Sure! See, this is another thing I love about modelling: You never know what the next job will bring. Its all so variable. My next shoot is for an art gallery that—hmmm, I’m under an NDA so I’m not sure what details I can share just yet.  But, based on what I’ve been told so far, it’s bound to be interesting and fun.

Eve: How do you respond to people comparing you to Marilyn Monroe?

Jacinda: Wow, I didn't know anyone compared me to Marilyn! That's very flattering. I suppose we do sleep in the same things. (laughs)

Eve: Is there someone special in your life?

Jacinda: Well... I have someone very special, but I reserve that aspect of life for just the two of us. He's my sanctuary, the place I can go whenever I need solitude or safety. I know that must sound strange, but it’s true.  He’s home.

Eve: That is incredibly sweet. As much as I’d love to pry into your private life, I’ll refrain. For now. Do you have any hobbies?

Jacinda: Yes! My father is a masterful jeweler and ever since I was a little girl, I've loved watching him create beautiful things. I've nowhere near his skill, but I enjoy making something pretty with my hands. Maybe one day I'll open up my own line! Jacinda’s Jewels?  Though it'll likely be made of pink plastic, I'm not that good.

Eve:  Well, be sure to let me know when you open your Etsy shop.

Jacinda:  Maybe we should do a collaboration of sorts?

Eve:  I’d like that. You’re officially invited to write here on the blog, should you wish to share any super secret plus size modelling tips.
I noticed on your Instagram account that you have the quote: “Ask yourself: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?” – is this a life motto?

Jacinda: Yes! Its very much a life motto. My first yoga instructor, this amazing little dynamo of a woman, Diane, taught me that. During a discussion about kindness she said that that's what she considers every time she speaks and it just blew me away. How much better would the world be if everyone could be so mindful? So I do my best to emulate that.

Eve: Thank you so much for taking the time to let me interview you like this, I’m sure our readers will be thrilled to get to know you.

Jacinda: Aww! My pleasure! Thank you, Eve. I hope we can do this again! PS: Happy birthday!

Eve: Thank you.
