Nostalgia Overload

Nostalgia Overload

When we were kids, Saturday morning cartoons served as the first lesson in cooperative compromise for me and my younger sister. She loved classics like Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, and the Smurfs, where I was into stuff like Dungeons and Dragons, G.I. Joe, and the Transformers.

Sorry sis, I know I'm outing our ages.

Somehow, we managed to alternate who got to watch their favorites without hedging the other out, but the best part was when we *agreed* on a show. Luckily for us, there were several and that no doubt aided in our scheduling prowess, but the one that stands out the most was Jem and The Holograms.

It had all the glitz, glam, and melodrama one could ask for. Bright neon costumes, seizure inducing concert sequences, easy and fun songs to sing along with at the top of our lungs (not sorry, mom) and my personal favorite: The Misfits.

Sure, they're particular form of villainy was a lesson in exactly what *not* to do in the professional world (or any environment, really), but they wore fishnet and had green hair!

Who doesn't like a showdown between Preppy Pop versus Preppy Punk!

I'd love to see a Jem revival, though the original would be hard to beat for nostalgic reasons alone. Bring back Jem and the Holograms and don't spare the Misfits! ^_^
