Cultural Appreciation

Cultural Appreciation

Hi all,

This is a little “before it’s time” or maybe “after it’s time”, I’m not sure which.  I’m planning to use this outfit as Moira’s wedding gown, which technically happened in her past, but I guess it’s a future post? I’ll figure it out. I’m planning on getting pictures of her in it while in Thailand, on a beach. Yes, I’m headed for Thailand for a large chunk of February.

And yes, I’m going to be one of those weirdos that travels with her dolls. They’re going to be in my carry on at all times, I’m too paranoid to trust checked luggage. Then again, if you were travelling with your dolls, especially collectibles and repaints, would you trust them in checked luggage? Didn’t think so :)

The thing is, I couldn’t wait a whole month to share. I can barely wait five minutes before de-boxxing my dolls and I’m terrible with positive surprises for anyone. “I waited as long as I could” usually means “I waited 30 seconds after I spoke to the person again”.

I discovered this beautiful outfit while searching for “curvy Barbie clothes” on Etsy. The shop is mimidollss and no, there is no affiliate link, and yes, I purchased the items I’m posting about, this is not a sponsored post.

I’m hoping this falls under “cultural appreciation” and not “cultural appropriation” . I know there’s a fine line. I think this outfit is absolutely gorgeous. It was originally not intended for a curvy, made to move Barbie, but that’s one of the positives of Etsy, direct communication with the shop owners. Custom pieces are usually possible.

I’m amazed at the detailing on the costume, not even sure I managed to capture it in pictures. The fabric is lovely and everything is sturdy. Despite not feeling great, Moon, who runs the shop and creates everything in it, had this outfit, along with all of the accessories, in the mail in less than two weeks! Crazy good, especially considering the detail that went into each little piece.

Needless to say, I’m very pleased. I think Mattel could learn a thing or two from the doll-clothing shop folks on Etsy 😊
