Project Versailles II
One month ago, I launched Project Versailles into the world and asked for your input on the costume direction. I got exactly two responses. Two. For the record, this was my husband and Infamous M. They both landed on the same thing, independently of each other. They loved the skirt with the slit from The Pearl and the drama of the robe from The Boudoir. Not quite what I had in mind, but I (rather lazily) combined the two sketches and … it might work? I'm thinking sheer mesh fabric for the skirt, letting the beads work their magic (if they can). I guess we'll see.
But what about the color theme? Here's where things stood:
Queen Cake: Ivory, cream, antique gold, and champagne.
Rosewater Pastry: Blush, dusty rose, pale champagne, and soft gold.
Pistachio Salon Fantasy: Pistachio green, antique gold, cream pearl, and champagne.
Now, seeing as the response from the community was crickets before, I decided to skip over the heartache of asking any of you to weigh in and go straight to the two folks who voted before. Neither one was big on The Rosewater Pastry, which was vetoed immediately on the grounds that pink is "too on the nose for Barbie." I get it, but I still think it was the most romantic option of the three. One vote was for The Queen Cake, the other was for The Pistachio Salon Fantasy, which meant I was the tie-breaker. Me, the indecisive person who can't even figure out what she wants to eat for dinner...unless ice cream is an option, then it's always ice cream. Being a fan of green, I took the leap into Pistachio Salon Fantasy. Fingers crossed.
Worry not, though, I'll be sneaking in little tiny pink touches here and there.
Armed with my color palette, it was time to shop, and shop I did. I went to my local hobby store and picked up far too many beads and little stickers, and I got some sheer mesh illusion fabric and some gorgeous green and gold fabric.
I'm really, really hoping I can figure out how to work with this fabric at this scale. It looks very delicate and I don't know how to sew. I'm a very basic stitch bitch.
I didn't want this post to feel "all over the place", but here we are (again, again, again, again). Still, I'm not sure how to segue to "hey, more stuff", so...let's just jump in.
On the prop side of things, there are updates too. Infamous M is being very tight-lipped about the process and is teasing me with a lack of update pictures. Though they've said "there are so many tiny flowers" more than once when we're chatting. They did show a mutual friend over video chat, and neither of them is sharing anything with me. I'm choosing to believe this means it's going to be extraordinary. It's all in good fun. Mostly.
The 3D printing artist has sent over digital renders of the cake he's designed from the ground up, stand and all, and I am excited.
He'll be printing it soon and sending it my way. I promise pictures on arrival, before painting, and during painting. I so hope I don't screw either of them up.
So, that's where I'm at. It's coming along, but far from finished. Have a good one.
