Quarantine Chic

Quarantine Chic

Since the lockdowns began, we’ve all done it, decided to stay in our sweatpants for the day, or the weekend, or the week, or in some extreme cases for months (yes, I’m looking at you, Moira). Not that I’ve been any better – I haven’t had an OOTD post since September, 2018 – positively shameful!

While it’s true that there’s no lack of sweat sets and oversized hoodies, there are also a lot of fashion-lovers out there dressing up for no other reason than to show off their cute clothes. I think it’s a way of coping with being cooped up for such a long period of time.

I don’t know how, or when, this pandemic is going to end and I’m not going to speculate on it. I don’t think this is the doomsday prediction, end of the world, or the death of fashion, either. I think people are constantly stressed and it’s getting to them. I mean, would “Tiger King” really have been that successful if lockdowns hadn’t been happening? I’d like to think not.

Where was I? Oh right, this isn’t the death of fashion. Relax. If you need affirmation, check out the #QuarantineChic hashtag on Instagram. Comfy outfits? Yes. But there are quite a few “I can’t wait to wear this, post-lockdown!” outfits, too, which is what my ensemble today is; outfit goals for a post-vaccination, post-lockdown “someday”.

It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.

Covid has already had an impact on the fashion industry, and style in general, just look at all the sparkly, decorated facial coverings that have been created. If brands want to take less of a hit, they’re going to pivot to the need to “dress up” again when it’s safe to do so. Fashion-forward people are just waiting to pounce, and a lot of us are still shopping from home.

Good luck out there!
